Not Guilty ! Only in AmeriKKKa.....NO Justice for Trayvon
The Front cover of the Daily news spoke volumes today. When will it end? If you've been under a rock for the last couple months a high profile case was going on. The case was based on the February 2012 murder of an unarmed teen in the city of Sanford, FL. After 18 hours of deliberations the jury filled with moms, came to the conclusion that George Zimmerman was NOT Guilty on 2nd degree murder or manslaughter charges.
For those who truly don't know the background of the case , here's a quick recap. One night in February 2012 Trayvon Martin was out walking in his dad's gated community, on his way home he stopped by a 7/11 where he purchased some late night snacks (IE a can of Arizona ice tea and a bag of skittles). Little did Trayvon know, hes being stalked by a local neighborhood watch guy, George Zimmerman. Prior to their meeting the neighborhood watch personnel made several calls to the local authority via 911. During all calls Zimmerman referenced Martin by his race and associated him with the recent crimes happening in the neighborhood. Authorities ordered Zimmerman to stand down and to keep his distance. A 911 operator went as far to tell Zimmerman not follow Martin, and Zimmerman ignored the orders. He continued to follow this unarmed teen. Hawking him down like a lion would do its prey. Martin became aware that someone was following him and placed a call to his friend. Martins friend stayed on the phone with him the entire time, up until his untimely death. After a brief scuffle shots rang out and the battle was over.
No one truly knows what happened that very tragic night that Trayvon lost his life. All we were left with were a few 911 calls, Trayvon's very last call to his close friend and the 1 side of the story from the gunman himself, Zimmerman. During one of the 911 calls you can actually hear an individual in the back screaming for their life. I mean the call was so heart wrenching it would bring tears to the eyes of the toughest man. Some argue that the cries are that of a man being beating who was fighting for his life. Others believe the cries were that of a young Trayvon fighting for his life. In a cold damp back yard a battle took place and at the end of that battle laid an unarmed 17yr boy, DEAD.
Some may argue, "the authorities told Zimmerman to stand down, he disobeyed the authorities and hunting Trayvon down.shooting and killing him making him Guilty on all charges". Others may say ," hey Trayvon was high and he attacked Zimmerman and with the stand your ground law Zimmerman had every right to defend himself." To some this may have seemed to be an open shut case and others may believe it was well worth the 17 month long trial it went through.
With Casey Anthony being acquitted of murdering her own daughter, a woman receiving 20 years for firing warning shots and Florida state pretty much trying to steal the election between bush and gore , there really wasn't a easy guess as to how this case would go. The one thing that the lawyers and law official screamed it wasn't about it might have truly been about all along and that one thing is RACE. This wasn't your average innocent die at the hands of a criminal type case. This was an unarmed young African American male being profiled and gunned down by a white man in America, a place who doesn't have quite the track record when it comes to protecting the rights of minorities, especially African Americans.
Saturday July 13th, 2013 an all white female jury found George Zimmerman NOT GUILTY. The nation went into an uproar. Not only would he be a free man he would also be returned the very gun he used to take Trayvon's life. Where do we go from here? How much more is there to take? When will we see a change? So many questions came pouring in. The nation stood still for a moment in disbelief. Celebrities from across the Globe expressed their disgust with the out come. As a once aspiring lawyer I believe that this case is a disgrace to the Justice system we're told that exist. When in reality its a dog eat dog world. Yes Zimmerman murdered Trayvon but no the defense did not build a strong enough case against him to convict. Its sad when the life of a dog is held higher than the life of an African American male in a nation ran by an African American president.
Where do we go from here?
The nation has come together in hundreds of peaceful protest in honor of the late trayvon martin. The NAACP has put a petition to be signed in order to move forward with a Civil Rights suit against Zimmerman. People from all walks of life are coming together to represent for the nation we want to become in order to fight the beliefs and reputation of a nation we once were.
